Staff AccountantJob descriptionPosition Purpose:The Staff Accountant handles various aspects of accounting for Mitch Cox Companies, working under the supervision of the Controller. This position provides management with financial information by preparing journal entries, researching and analyzing accounts and preparing financial statements.Responsibilities and Tasks:Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system.Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances to ensure sufficient cash balances are available to meet expense requirements.Prepare standard general ledger entries and monthly closing entries to reflect accurate account balances.Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.Assist departments in preparing and maintaining budgets.Assist in federal and state tax preparation process.Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.Provide leadership and encouragement to others by example and sharing of knowledge and skills.Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.Implement best practices, standards and procedures in all accounting functions and activities.Contribute to accounting and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.Additional duties as assigned.(This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive but rather to indicate the kinds of work that will be required in this position. The company's needs may dictate the assignment of additional or differing responsibilities.)Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):Knowledge of -Principles, practices, and techniques of generally accepted accounting principles.Accounting office procedures best practices.Methods and techniques for professional record-keeping and report-writing.Skills -Ability to operate computers programed with accounting software and record, store, and analyze information.Ability to develop a solid working knowledge of the Company's policies, procedures, and culture in a short time period.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Researching, data collection, organization, and reporting skills.Must be organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task and set priorities.Must be an active listener, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.Demonstrate initiative and sense of urgency in daily duties by meeting or improving upon deadlines.Ability to -Effectively plan, implement, and manage assigned programs and functions.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.Implement, explain, and apply applicable policies, procedures, laws, codes, and regulations.Accurately analyze, interpret, and evaluate accounting issues and make appropriate recommendations for action.Ability to listen, understand, and communicate information and ideas through spoken words and written communications.Make oral presentations to clearly convey information and concepts.Work independently and as a part of a team.Education & Experience:Bachelor's or associate's degree (or demonstrated competency) in an accounting field plus two additional years of related work experience desired.Must project and uphold the highest ethical standards and have demonstrated leadership ability.Physical RequirementsMust be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance; to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping; and to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time.
