This position is required to perform clerical work related to
the processing of documents, records and files when such duties
require the application of an extensive body of established records
management methods and procedures, knowledge of a wide variety of
prescribed systems for governing the flow and control of
communications, and knowledge of the organization and functions of
the operating unit or units serviced and knowledge to resolve a
wide range of problems.

As the File Clerk, the incumbent' duties include, but are not

operations. The position processes incoming file documents,
establishes new (or updates old) file categories and codes;
maintains suspense files for follow-up after assigning "reply by"
date when this is required; and performs similar related duties.
The position performs day-to-day filing functions by following
specific procedures and regulations that cover the receipt,
security, categorization, cross-indexing of official records.
- The position processes incoming materials. The position
receives documents and records, opens, reads and presorts incoming
materials into principal classifications. The file clerk carefully
studies incoming correspondence and/or documents to determine the
subject matter or nature of question being asked and therefore the
appropriate category and cross-reference to establish.
