SCOPE OF POSITION
The PACS Administrator's responsibilities will include but not limited to responsibility for day to day operation of PACS equipment, including image workflow, provides technical support for both hardware and software problems . Works closely with unit managers to ensure timely and complete capture of DICOM digital image data into the PACS system as well as network transmission, RIS validation, and exceptions handling. Major responsibilities center on actively ensuring customer uptime, quality control, and customer satisfaction. Acts as liaison between Diagnostic Imgaging and other departments related to medical imaging initiative and procedures and assists with existing or new medical imaging endeavors. Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of PACS. Responsible for the management of all PACS devices and interconnectivity from the modalities to the Diagnostic Review Stations, monitoring functions daily as needed. Responsible for ensuring complete database accuracy and consistency throughout all PACS devices from the modalities to the Diagnostic Review Stations. Works with I.S. to ensure all patient images are archived and stored for future viewing and meet HIPAA requirements for storage, patient confidentiality, and disaster recovery. Works as a liaison between the PACS vendor and any other Imaging vendors to resolve data transfer problems. Also works with IS interface engine specialist to assure timely and accurate transfer of data. Work with I.S. to gather statistical information for systems sizing and growth to meet current and future needs of PACS. Ensure staff are trained on PACS and the proper use of system. Responsible for coordination of training of employees and physicians. Develops and implements a PACS training curriculum for physicians and team members. Serves as training coordinator during "train the trainer" sessions for facility administrators. Maintain and assign user access codes as appropriate for an individual's job title. Ensure the medical community has the ability to view patient images and receive patient reports as allowed by hospital policies and HIPAA. Perform additional or different functions that may be assigned from time to time. Assist Administrative Director of Radiology and/or Director of IT in the preparation of and subsequent monitoring of the goals relating to the capital budget for PACS. Must be a good project manager and requires ability to effectively communicate with customers.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three years of system analysis and/or systems administration is required or 5 years experience (RTR) in CT or MRI. Extensive technical knowledge of computers and/or PACS is required. Experience in NT server, workstation, networking, and user management preferred. Experience with security issues, relational databases, project management, and staff supervision are essential. Must have a high-level of analytical ability to solve difficult technical and administrative problems. Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), mathematical, and documentation skills. Must have excellent organizational, project management, development skills and be detail oriented.
ARRT certification preferred.



For this position, I would accept an IT PACS or PACS Admin experienced candidate as our team includes both "types" and all are trained in both areas though each has their core strength. I do believe some experience with PACS is a must if possible, but a technically trained person would be considered.
