Summary

This position involves. the operation of six commercial heavy-duty laundry tumbler/conditioners. The incumbent loads wet laundry from laundry trucks into tumblers to be fluffed and dried, ensuring that the quantity of wash is correct and that the drying temperature and time settings on machines are correct, based on the type of laundry being processed.

    Duties

    Duties include but are not limited too:
    • Operates six commercial heavy-duty laundry tumbler/conditioners.
    • Loads wet laundry from laundry trucks into tumblers to be fluffed and dried.
    • Ensures that quantity of wash is correct and that the drying temperature and time settings on machines are correct based on the type of laundry being processed.
    • Removes laundry from machines after drying operation is complete and places it in distribution line for delivery to other departments for further processing.
    • Cleans machines of lint and notifies the Supervisory Laundry Worker of any malfunctioning equipment.
    • Possesses extensive knowledge in laundry services, to be able to work in any position within the service line.
    • Uses knowledge laundry operations to operate and provide maintenance to operating machines.
    • Operates machines simultaneously and maintain records of work processed.
    • Sets timing controls, and thermostats for proper drying and cooling periods.
    • Maintains / Performs first-echelon maintenance on all the drying/tumbling equipment.

      PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in laundry operation, customer service skills, ability to follow directions

        Qualifications

        EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

        SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.           Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.           Physical Requirements: The incumbent is engaged in constant physical activity to include standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting. The incumbent loads and unloads machines, pushes heavy carts of laundry, and lifts items weighing in excess of 50 pounds.

          Working Conditions: Incumbent is subject to high levels of noise and works in a hot, humid environment. Employee works around steam-operated equipment and must exercise safety precautions to avoid burns from steam or steam-heated equipment. Work is performed on a concrete floor and floors are subject to wetting and may be slippery. The incumbent must be able to work with patients, patient/members, work study employees, summer aid employees, housekeeping aids, and other persons assigned through various training programs.
