EmPATH Advanced Practice Registered NurseSummary of position/role
of team:
- Responsible for the delivery and oversight of emergency
psychiatric care to patients who present to the EmPATH Unit on a 23
hour basis.
- Provide thorough assessments and pharmacotherapy to patients as
well as working with a team of providers to address administrative,
clinical, and other medical related needs.
- Provide all clinical services under the HRMC Advanced Practice
Registered Nurse (APRN) Protocol.
- An essential role is to be reliable, predictable, maintain
regular attendance, and be on site 40 hours per week.TYPICAL
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
- The APRN will provide psychiatric services in one or more
designated crisis programs, mainly the EmPATH Unit.
- The APRN will not provide services out in the community.JOB
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES1. Works in a multi-disciplinary team
approach to meet the clinical needs of patient who present in a
psychiatric emergency.
- Perform emergency patient evaluations and provide treatment
through medication focusing on diagnosis, treatment effectiveness,
and/or complications.
- Collaborate with other team members around patient care issues
and documents this in the patient medical record when
appropriate.
- Attend treatment team meetings and provide input on patient
care and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with outside healthcare professionals surrounding
their discharge care or other referral sources including higher
levels of care.
- Reference and utilize approved formulary on the unit when
prescribing medication.2. Completes all documentation in compliance
with HRMC standards.
- Respond to all flags, emails, and voicemails from other
clinical staff by end of shift.
- Documentation reflects utilization of Guidelines for
Prescribing Controlled Substances.
- Documentation reflects the utilization of Guidelines for
Monitoring Maintenance Pharmacotherapy.
- Document clinical services provided in the medical record on
same day as service provided in a clear and concise manner.
Dictation must be completed and available for transcription on same
day as service provided.
- Document medication consent for medications prescribed face to
face or via telehealth at HRMC at the time of initiating a new
medication.
- Review and co-sign treatment plans on same day of receiving.3.
Completion of required HRMC training to maintain status as
credentialed provider.
- Maintain an active DEA license as well as a RN/APRN license in
the state of Tennessee in accordance with the state and ANCC
guidelines.
- Complete any Center Required Self-Directed Learning or Training
Modules in the required time frames.
- Complete First Aid, CPR, and HWC trainings within the required
time frames.Compensation:
- Starting salary of $134,150; plus shift differential of 5% for
2nd and 10% for 3rd shift.
- SIGN ON BONUS AVAILABLE Schedule:
- The APRN is expected to fulfill the agreed upon hours when
hired.
- Unless otherwise approved, the APRN is expected to be present
on the unit for the full 12-hour daytime shift.
- Schedule will include every other weekend and holidays as
scheduled.
- All other scheduling arrangements are approved on a
case-by-case basis.

- Travel is not required if the APRN is providing medication
services to their designated crisis program.
- The APRN may have to travel between clinics/programs at times,
and may be required to travel for any supervision, trainings, or
scheduled meetings.
- There is no overnight travel. Equipment/Technology:
- Staff will receive a center issued laptop.
- The APRN will require a laptop and desktop to provide
medication services.
- It is essential for the APRN to have access to one or both
devices in order to access the EMR, Drs. First, and Doxy.me.
- The APRN will need access to e-mail, Athena Health (EMR), Drs.
First including a EPCS Token, and a Doxy.me account.
- VPN (remote) access is approved on a case-by-case basis.
- The APRN will require a laptop and desktop to provide
medication services.
- It is essential for the APRN to have access to one or both
devices in order to access the EMR, Drs. First, and
Doxy.me.QUALIFICATIONS - EmPATH Advanced Practice Registered
NurseEducation / License:
- Must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and
possess an active license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state
of Tennessee.
- Have completed an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
approved Psychiatric Mental Health APRN Program and preferably have
completed an American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
approved Family or Acute Health APRN Program, and maintain an
active license as an APRN in the state of Tennessee.
- Must be board certified and hold a certification as a
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from ANCC and
preferably as a Family or Acute Nurse Practitioner from the
AANP.
- Have a Certificate of Fitness from The Tennessee Board of
Nursing.
- Must hold and maintain an active DEA license.
- Must have completed a minimum of eight hours of
Medication-Assisted Treatment as required by the DEA.
- Lastly, the APRN must have an F endorsement on their driver's
license, which can be obtained following employment. Experience /
Knowledge:
- Must have obtained a minimum of 500 clinical hours with a
preceptor while enrolled in the respective APRN program.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality, best practice with
prescribing medications, and patient centered practice approach
required.Physical:
- Staff must complete and maintain First-Aid, CPR, and Handle
With Care (HWC) trainings within the required time frames (training
provided).
- APRNs who provide medication services in a designated crisis or
residential program must complete the full HWC trainings.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 150 lbs.
- Some exposure to biological hazards and unpleasant odors.
- Hearing of normal/soft tones and close eye work.
- Valid driver's license.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and
reaching.
- Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal
de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily
movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another
person, going down on knees, running, and walking.
