Job Title: PACU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum 2 years of PACU experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Pre-op/PACU experience Description: Unit Profile: The purpose of this unit is to provide exceptional care and support for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Registered Nurses are responsible for preparing patients for surgery and monitoring them during recovery. The unit consists of 6 pre-op/Phase II beds and 2 PACU beds. The patient ratios are approximately 2-3 patients per RN. All scrubs are provided by the hospital and must be green in color. There are no techs or unit secretaries in the unit; RNs carry out all tasks. The majority of patients will discharge home on the same day of their procedures. Common procedures include general surgery, minor orthopedic and laparoscopic surgeries, podiatry, ophthalmology, gynecology, and endoscopy. The documentation system used in the unit is Cerner. The unit has a strong focus on patient experience. Recent recognition includes the "Unit of Distinction 2023." The staff comprises tenured professionals with over 10 years of experience. The schedule typically follows a Monday to Friday routine with no call requirements.
